Gimp. I don't know shit about drawing so everything is self-taught with it, I also use my mouse and keyboard, not fancy equipment or anything. I must add that I don't actually draw most of the images. I edit templates and such. I only draw details myself, like accessories or the tufts.

Pic related, filled a request in the drawthread. Took an image of a guard and added the tentacles. I'm not capable of anything more.

Adding more detail to my story:
I've always wanted to draw stuff but I couldn't bring up the patience to really get into it. When I got into the fandom a couple of months ago I watched a livestream of someone drawing pone and it inspired my to try it myself. Since then I try to edit a few images a week. I've really improved and my drawing of stuff has gotten better, too.
I hope that one day I might be able to draw my first own pone.

Ponyscape is pretty messed up. There is somewhere a tutorial on yt about how to draw powerstrokes or something. Guy is trying to explain basics for almost ten minutes, where you can do the same thing in PS in 30 seconds.

The same with me. One year ago I learned how to use Photoshop by "vectoring" screencaps from the MLP.

I'd recommend PS CS6, if you know some of the key shortcuts and how to use pen tool, then it's very easy to make anything.

well, you don't expect to learn something in 30 seconds. i learnt power strokes in 4 hours using a .png guide and now i take 30 seconds doing it.

if you have money for PS then go ahead and use it. i still prefer ink scape. over Illustrator for vectoring.

Photoshop... yeah... Let me put it this way: I was hella confused with Gimp. And then I tried to use PS at work and I got NOTHING done. It was so uuuugh, frustrating.
I know it's a matter of learning how to handle it but Gimp should be able to cover most of its tools anyway, shouldn't it?

I've read through the first two pastebins by now. Pretty standard stuff but I like.

Anyway, got home from work and I don't have any plans for this evening so I've got the time to stick to the advice and look into ponyscape/inkscape.

Update (since I couldn't post for quite some time):
I've watched a tutorial (I got hella confused with trying on my own) and I'm slowly gripping it.

Just a weird one, but the OP caught my eye the other day. Why? Well, I talk to 762 - the guy who made Pull Tab.
We had a good laugh today and I showed him the thread, because I know he'd smile when he saw it.
Then something hit us.
...He never described how Pull Tab looks. You lot made her to look the way she does, right?
Well, this guy was around a long while before she was.
Just weird how me and 762 get along well and while my OC is called shit for the way he looks, you lot happily design one that aside from the wings being a lighter hue, is basically the r63 batpony version of him.

Well, it's my "fault", I guess. I remember that someone said she has red/dark red mane. Moonlight's story states that Pull Tab has ribbons in her hair, but holy fuck they looked awful when I tried to add them, I just couldn't catch the proportions and perspective, so I removed them. Dark coat to match the red mane, yellow eyes and voila! Here is the Pull Tab, the best stripper in Hollow Shades.

Yes, your pony looks very similar to Pull Tab, only his wings and mane+tail are more yellowish. It really depends on the place where you post your pony, there are threads where people are tolerant and don't give too much attention to the palette, but there are also places where people would shit themself to show how shitty is your pony, how much you suck etc, etc.
Personally, I like your ponies and your drawing style. Tell 762 that we are alwas waiting for more content or discussion about bats with him. Even if there is no hype like in the first 5-10 bat threads.

By his canon, his mane, tail and wings are actually meant to be a deep crimson colour, which is his namesake, but ya know, different artists different flavours and all.
Unfortunately I can't say that pic is my own drawing, but I have done vectors in the past. I'm a sucky artist however and while I can write, I can't draw without tracing the majority of what I do.

Well, her name is Musa. She used to be a Pegasus who worked on a banana farm. Something happened to her regarding the vampire fruit bats (I haven't figured that part out yet), so she's a similar case to Flutterbat, except she didn't end up getting reverted. So she's not a born legit batpony.

She doesn't have a lot of backstory at the moment, but her goal in bat-life is to be queen of all batponies. It probably won't go well. Especially since i'm sure there's some batponies that would call her fake, which I suppose she is.

Also, her design is supposed to resemble 1940s/WWII fashion and style. Just to add that in there.

I don't think that is plausible.
Both Celestia and Luna have shown concern with his ability/development/behaviour. Also, they need to cast spells on him to heal him, so it's not an ability of his own and he also strongly rejects magic (being a being not fully capable of understanding harmony and friendship and all).
I also don't think that he is inherently evil or antagonistic. From what I gather he's just very distanced and lawful neutral, to use that concept. He's heavily inclined to his duty and will do everything he seems necessary to achieve his goals. He just doesnt care enough to show mercy and all. If he were to get closer to a pony, he'd show restraint. Like he does with Nightlight.
He's been around for roughly 700 years, was sexually involved with Luna several times and got brush-my-hair-zoned by Celestia.
He's famous among the guards and mostly unknown outside of canterlot. This means he's either been there for all that time (he states so himself) or has been there for longer than a pony can remember (meaning at least 2 generations).
I came up with an idea which'd be pretty interesting to write down (although I usually refrain from writing edgy stuff but the source material is pretty edgy itself, so whatever) but I don't want to interfere with or influence the main story in the slightest, at least not without permission.

Aside from what I write above, I agree with you.

I honestly care more about bat ponies and problem in Agratti and with Red Queen, than Anon and his life. I know that probably there will be a strong connection between most of the plots at the end, but I don't have the heart to explain and support his actions. For me the most heartbreaking moment was when Anon threatened Rosewood before releasing her. Damn, even if this story is really... medieval, that scene was just depressing. I can only say I'm just happy how the backstory of bat ponies looks like and I hope that Eppy will keep it that way.

That aside, I do of course care about the pony background. I love worldbuilding and there's quite a lot around if you're willing to read between the lines.

I'm getting separated for not skreeing loud enough during my final batformance fitness assessment, so I'll likely be writing more.

Well, here it is, my first vector ever.
Chose to go with recreating that image because here I am, vectoring bate when I should really study for my finals.
Took me 6 well-invested hours to finish and I had loads of fun, aside from throwing a fit here and there.

Also: Fuck eyes, fuck wings and fuck ponyscape. That shit died on me five times and didn't let me gradient the eyes.
Trying on a new canvas worked fine, maybe it doesn't like how I grouped things or something?

If anyone happens to have some good tutorials or whatever on how to draw aforementioned things I'd be very grateful.

The problem is basically that, regarding the "gaps" I could work around that in that I don't layer the tufts over the "normal" ear and create them in one stroke but there should be a way to "line up" the two different lines in that it doesnt fill the thin line between the two strokes. Sounds weird.
Regarding the missing tips, it's got something to do with the angle at which the two lines collide, if it is big enough there is a tip but I just cant angle them that way without making the tufts look like crap. It's got something to do with the miter value, I guess but however high I set it, it doesnt do anything. Must be something else.

Anyway, that video is great and got me through some issues. I also suggest the ponyscape introduction video by Flutterguy himself. I sat through more than 1 hours of Rarara but it was worth it.
